HamSphere 5.007 is now Native on Apple Silicon! We are pleased to announce a major update for HamSphere 5 on macOS. HamSphere 5.007 is now available as a native Apple Silicon application for Macs using Apple M1, M2, M3, M4 and newer processors. Until now, HamSphere on Apple Silicon Macs used our Intel application through Apple's Rosetta compatibility layer. With recent macOS Tahoe updates, the legacy Excelsior JET runtime began causing stability problems on some Apple Silicon systems. Rather than continuing to work around an aging Intel runtime, we decided to replace it. The new Apple Silicon release is a true ARM64 build and runs directly on the Apple processor. Technical highlights: • Native ARM64 executable • No Java installation needed • No Rosetta required • No Excelsior JET runtime • Native operation on Apple Silicon • Hardened Runtime enabled • Proper macOS microphone/audio permissions • Signed with HamSphere AB's Apple Developer ID • Notarized by Apple • Notarization ticket stapled to the installer for offline Gatekeeper verification • Standard signed macOS PKG installer • Existing HamSphere 5 transceivers, antennas and plug-ins remain compatible • Intel Macs continue to have their own Intel version This is more than simply repackaging the existing application. The complete runtime environment has been replaced while retaining compatibility with the existing HamSphere 5.007 application and plug-in system. The new native version has already been successfully tested on an Apple M4 Pro running macOS Tahoe, including normal radio operation, receive audio and microphone transmission. This also removes HamSphere's dependency on Rosetta for future Apple Silicon versions of macOS.
